North-east social care charity launches Christmas campaign

COVID-19 is having a profound impact on everyone; however, this Christmas, thousands of families will find themselves living in poverty, struggling to heat their homes, feed their children, buy presents, or provide warm clothing for the winter.

Christmas should be a time of joy and happiness but for many families and people in their later years in life, it can be a time of stress, sorrow, and increased loneliness and isolation.

VSA’s Christmas appeal hopes to be able to provide much-needed support to vulnerable children and adults by providing food parcels, fuel grants, and toys for families to ensure they are able to enjoy the festive season.

The charity also runs over 22 residential facilities that support people of all ages across various services, including later years in life, Linn Moor School, and mental wellbeing facilities. VSA hopes to provide each resident with a hamper or stocking filled with goodies as sadly many of the people VSA support will not be able to see families this Christmas due to COVID-19 regulations.

Dr. Kenneth Simpson, Chief Executive of VSA, said: “This year is undoubtedly one of the most challenging any of us have had to face, and we have seen demand soar across all our services with thousands of families in need of support. That is why now more than ever vulnerable children and adults living in Aberdeen need your help. We hope that the people of Aberdeen can support us in helping to bring a smile this Christmas.”

Aberdeen company FortyTwo Studio made a kind donation of £530 to the appeal and Managing Director Mark Kemp said: “Over its 150 history, VSA has been so important to the region, and never more than in 2020. The support and services it has continued to provide during the current pandemic have been incredible and the team thoroughly deserve our appreciation and respect.”

All donations made to the charity’s appeal will go directly to supporting the most vulnerable children and adults this Christmas. If you would like further information please contact:
